Founded in 1949 by the Hodge family, the restaurant began as a small roadside pit where neighbors gathered for hearty plates of slow-cooked pork and homemade sides. With the passing of time, word spread quickly—locals and travelers alike couldn’t resist the rich, tangy flavors, and D & H soon became a Lowcountry landmark.
As the menu grew, so did its loyal following. Classic plates of pulled pork, hash and rice, fried chicken, and ribs remain at the heart of the experience, while newer offerings showcase the variety of Southern comfort foods people crave. Few know that D & H even has a “secret menu” of off-the-menu combos and special cuts for longtime fans.
